Workshop mit dem VfL

On Monday, the 20th of December 2021, our class had a workshop with the VfL. The subject was discrimination. Some of us were at the TGH but because of Covid, some of us were at home as well.

In the first lesson we looked at typical clichés we had about people from certain different countries and discovered that they’re not always right. We also talked about why we had those clichés.

In the next lesson we played a game in which we were given statements about people of certain countries or cultures, and we had to decide what they were, for example a cliché, an offence or just true.

In the last lesson we looked at real life examples for racism and homophobia in football, especially fans who insulted players. We also talked about how we would solve these situations and how the people who were actually involved solved the situations.

The people at home took part in the workshop through a video conference. After every question or discussion, they were asked if they wanted to add anything or had any questions. They presented their results as well and were treated as if they were in the room, too.
In the end we came to the conclusion that discrimination is very unfair and unjustifiable. No one has the right to offend anyone for things they can’t do anything about. We hope that one day discrimination becomes a thing of the past.

All in all, everyone had fun and we all learned something. Thank you Mr Ferneschild and Elina for doing the workshop with us!
